Read this New York Times article about Communities In Schools and the school-based services it provides to more than 1.5 million kids across the country. CIS Orange is part of a network of CIS affiliates in North Carolina and nationally via Communities in Schools National.


With its recent accreditation, CIS Orange is among the nearly 200 accredited affiliates that comprise the Communities In Schools network in 25 states and the District of Columbia. Taken together, the affiliates work with nearly 3,300 schools in the most challenged communities and serve more than 1.5 million young people and their families. On a micro level, CIS Orange works with 285 students who are at risk of multiple suspensions and/or dropping out of school. For instance, students like Trevor. To many, Trevor was just another angry kid who would either barely make it through school with multiple absences or drop out because of poor behavior. A CIS student support coach saw a student with a bright future in the making, and took an critical step that would change the picture of education for Trevor.  Watch this video to hear his story.
